This crown was minted to celebrate the Silver (25th) Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. This was the first commemorative coin of the decimal era, and also the first time a royal wedding anniversary had been celebrated with the issue of a British coin.
The design was minted onto coins in cupronickel and made available from banks at face value, but the coin we have on offer is the collector version produced in solid sterling silver and to a mirror-proof finish. The design features the initials E and P for ‘Elizabeth’ and ‘Philip’ behind which is the complete foliage and one flower of the forget-me-not, with a crown above. Designer: Arnold Machin.
