Description
In 1996 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 70th Birthday and as part of the celebrations a commemorative five pound coin was produced. The coin was not struck for circulation, but a number of collector editions were produced.
The design shows Windsor Castle, the Queen’s residence in Berkshire, accompanied by the Royal Standard, the Union Flag, the Queen’s personal flag and two pennants bearing the anniversary dates 1926 and 1996. Although the coin was issued in base metal in uncirculated and Proof condition, a limited number were also struck in sterling silver to Proof standards.
