50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 50P AND ITS GREATEST MILITARY COMMEMORATIONS
Since its release in 1969, the 50p has featured over 60 different designs, making it a favourite with coin collectors. This five-coin set commemorating British Military Anniversaries, is part of the 50 years of the 50p Commemorative Series. It includes the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the 50th Anniversary of D-Day, two coins for the 150th Anniversary of the Victoria Cross, and the 950th Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.
Each of the five Sterling silver proof coins in double thickness (Piedforts) are collector pieces themselves, including the D-Day design which has not previously been released at this diameter – when it was previously released the fifty pence was at a larger size – making the 2019 minting of this coin a ‘one off’ sought-after by collectors.
