The first silver five pound ever to feature portraits of both King Charles III and Queen Camilla

30th June 2023

At the coronation ceremony on Saturday 6th of May 2023, we saw not only the crowning of King Charles III but also that of his wife as Queen Camilla. To celebrate this event, an exceptional silver five pound has been announced.

The first of its kind to depict our new king alongside his new queen, this silver five pound features the official Coronation Emblem on the reverse with the double portrait, by accomplished designer Jody Clark, on the obverse. This is of a type rarely ever seen on coinage. Queen Elizabeth II was depicted alongside her husband Prince Philip, but prior to that we need to reach back through time to the reign of William and Mary in the late 1600’s.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

#Didyouknow? the national flower of Ireland is the three-leaf shamrock. It is believed that the shamrock was used by St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity; the father, the son and the Holy Spirit.

The shamrock is featured alongside the king’s royal cypher on our 2023 King Charles III Accession Silver Crown to represent Ireland.

The 2023 King Charles III Accession Silver One Crown

This is a great moment in British history: we have a new monarch for the first time in over seventy years, and our first king since the mid-twentieth century. The accession of King Charles III is being marked with a special commemorative silver crown coin.

It features the King’s royal cypher on one side; comprised of a large letter C intertwined with the letter R for ‘Rex’, and within it the Roman numeral for three, along with floral symbols of the four countries of the United Kingdom, a reminder of the new king’s visit to those four nations upon his accession. On the obverse side is a portrait of the king by artist Jody Clark, designer of the final portrait of the Late Queen Elizabeth II.

Heroes of 2020: Nurses and Carers 1oz medal

Care home staff awarded 'Heroes' medal call it 'big morale boost'

Martin Butler, aged 62, wanted to find a long-lasting way to thank staff rather than just gifting flowers and chocolate, for the care they have given his wife, Georgina, 64, who needed to go into a care home in November last year.

Mr Butler said: “I had been buying flowers for the staff, but they don’t last long, chocolates get eaten and then you have nothing to show for it after. I wanted to give the staff something they could keep forever so that they knew how much they had done for me, which is when I saw the medals.”
