Description
The bimetal £2 coin entered circulation in 1997 with a four-ring design that celebrated technology from the iron age, the 18th century, the silicon chip, and the internet era. It quickly became a workhorse of our coinage but in 2015 it was replaced.
The intricate design looks superb minted to Proof standards, and even better when it is struck in silver! To simulate the two-metal look of the coins in circulation the outer ring is layered with gold, while the central section retains the brilliance of its sterling silver planchet. A superb way to remember the first series of two pound bimetal coins.
