Description
When Britain changed to decimal currency in 1971 the five pence was the third highest face value coin, designed to replace the predecimal shilling. It featured the thistle.
First issued in 1968 a whole three years before decimal changeover (it circulated alongside shillings as it was the same size and value as them) it was last issued in 2008, and with a size change in 1990. It was only minted in sterling silver on five occasions – here is your chance to own one.
