Sterling Mint has commissioned a range of medals struck in pure silver (99.9% purity) to pay tribute to the people and professions who have kept the country going and kept us alive. Any such list will create controversy and whilst we do not intend this to be totally comprehensive, it certainly recognises some of the most important people in the country over the last few months. The 11 categories are:
- Volunteers
- Nurses and Carers
- Doctors
- Teachers
- Armed Forces and reservists
- Police
- Firemen
- Ambulance crews
- Pharmacists
- Essential Workers
- The Rest of Us
Each of the 10 designs is available in a 1oz medal, limited to 9,999 each and retailing for £49, or a 2oz version, retailing for £99 and limited to just 2,020 each. In addition, there is a full kilo medal available, limited to just 100 editions in tribute to the age of the phenomenal Captain Thomas Moore and his accomplishments. The kilo medal features all of the 10 designs and will retail for £1,999. Each of these will be numbered. The first 5 kilo medals to be struck, numbers 1-5, will be presented, without charge, to the following individuals in recognition of their leadership and/or inspiration throughout the crisis:
- Her Majesty The Queen
- Boris Johnston
- Captain Tom Moore
- Professor Chris Whitty
- Sir Patrick Vallance
All medals will be supplied in a presentation case and include a certificate of authenticity.
