King Charles III Coronation Emblem

All you need to know about the Coronation Emblem

King Charles III Coronation Emblem

On 6th May, 2023, King Charles III becomes the first British monarch to be crowned in the 21st century. For an event of such significance, the new ‘Coronation Emblem’ has been created specially for our King, and will coincide with the celebratory events.

Here, we provide you with all you need to know about the Coronation Emblem…

The design:

The Coronation Emblem was designed by Sir Jony Ive KBE. He is a British product designer and had a successful career working with Apple as the chief designer, where he actually contributed in the design of the Iphone and other tech items! Upon designing the emblem, Ive wanted to celebrate the beginning of this new era and stated that the design was “inspired by King Charles’ love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world”.

The United Kingdom:

To recognise the importance of the four countries of the United Kingdom to the King, the Coronation Emblem brings together the floral motifs of the United Kingdom. The rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales and the shamrock of Northern Ireland all form into the shape of the St Edward’s Crown. It was also designed using the same colour shades (red, white and blue) as the national flag of the United Kingdom; the Union Jack.

The Coronation:

Sitting in the centre of the Coronation Emblem is the St Edward’s Crown, designed using the roses, thistles, daffodils and shamrocks of the United Kingdom. The St Edward’s Crown will play a significant role during the Coronation service as it will be worn by the King during the moment of crowning. The emblem will feature amongst all celebrations for the Coronation weekend, such as the Coronation service itself, the Coronation Concert, all street parties, and other national events. You will also see it being used for all official merchandise and social media platforms.
