Recognising all key workers that have risked their lives to protect others, today we are launching with the Heroes of 2020 pure silver medal range.
Coronavirus has affected everyone in the UK, from the disruption of livelihoods, to the loss of loved ones. The key workers of this country have been nothing short of heroic in keeping us well, fed and cared for. We have recognised that while everyone is doing their bit to say thank you, from drawings to clapping on Thursdays, people want to be able to give these heroes the medals they deserve.
Initially, we had plans to launch the company in early 2020. Like many things, this was derailed by the outbreak of coronavirus. Instead, we wanted to launch by making a positive contribution towards the national effort and celebrate key workers.
The Heroes of 2020 campaign idea then came to life. We now have a range of 99.9% pure silver medals designed for key and essential workers available for purchase online. Each one has an obverse that represents a different service helping to get the UK through this pandemic. This ranges from our doctors to police, as well as our dedicated armed forces and reservists. While the George Cross, our nation’s highest award for civilian bravery, inspires the obverse design.
Nobody is being left out though. The range also features a medal for those who observed the lockdown. An ideal way to reward those of us who followed government advice and stayed at home, thereby protecting our NHS, especially the young who have seen their normal daily life so disrupted by the crisis.
For each medal sold we’ll donate 100% of its profits from sale to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal.
Ultimately, these medals are intended as gifts for individuals to send to key workers to say a huge thank you for everything they are doing during the pandemic. This way, they can have something that lasts forever, reminding them that they will always be our heroes.
“The key workers of this country have been invincible. They continually risk their own lives to ensure that we are safe and prepared to beat this virus. After noticing how much people appreciate everything they do, we wanted to be able to provide a tangible and long-lasting gift to show how proud we all are. This is a small something we can do to help support the NHS.” – Simon Mellinger, Managing Director of Sterling Mint
With your help, we aim to raise over £2 million for the charity.
After this terrible time, we hope to keep the company moving forward introducing fascinating silver commemorative coins and medals.
Thank you to all,
Sterling Mint
